With wingspans of over 60 inches, the gyrfalcon is the largest of all falcons. It is found in the northernmost regions of Canada and Alaska, in seaside- and river-based territories. Like other falcons, it relies on speed to capture prey and hunts a variety of birds including ducks, gulls and ptarmigans. It lays its eggs on bare cliffs or uses abandoned nests of other birds.
